I am delighted to announce the reappointment of Keith Webster as the Helen and Henry Posner, Jr. Dean of the University Libraries. Since his appointment in July 13, Dean Webster, who also serves as director of emerging and integrative media initiatives, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a visionary approach to the evolving role of the University Libraries.

Update on Immigration Issues Affecting CMU and Available Resources

As President Jahanian shared in his recent community-wide message, we continue to navigate a shifting landscape in higher education that we know is disruptive and unsettling. As has happened at other institutions, we learned late last week that the student visas of two current CMU students and five recent graduates had been revoked and their records in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) had been terminated. These incidents understandably raise wider concerns for many in our community, and we take seriously our continued responsibility to ensure that our community is equipped with the information they need to navigate these uncertain times.

We write to inform you of a recent development related to the university’s engagement with federal funding sources. Last night, President Trump issued a new Executive Order that directs federal agencies to take specific actions over the next 30 days.
Regarding the NIH's New Policy Guidance on Indirect Costs

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) posted new policy guidance late Friday, Feb. 7, that caps the facilities and administrative (F&A, or indirect cost recovery) rate for NIH grants at 15%. If this guidance stands, the F&A cap will go into effect on Monday, Feb. 10, and it will be applied to future expenses on all current NIH grants as well as new NIH grants awarded to institutions of higher education.
